OSU Goes Nutch

Document Actions
OSU converting search software from Google to Nutch.

Further promoting open source alternatives, Oregon State University is converting its searching infrastructure from Googletm to the open source project Nutch. More information about Nutch can be found on the official website at http://www.nutch.org.

The effort to replace the Googletm will realize significant cost savings for Oregon State University, while promoting both the Nutch Search Engine and transparency in search engine use and management. The estimated annual cost savings for this conversion are as high as $100,000/year. Not Bad, eh?

The conversion was handled by Central Web Services, a unit of Oregon State University that the Open Source Lab works closely with on various development efforts. You can find out more about Central Web Services at: http://oregonstate.edu/cws/
